Here is an absolutely fabulous Zircon! This gem has a gorgeous bright peach color with flashes of orange. The color in this stone is lovely and transitions depending on the temperature of the light it’s in, a mesmerizing effect. The clarity of the stone is excellent and flashes beautifully in hand. It has a unique freeform shape and has been fantasy carved in the pavilion to create an illusion. There is a “staircase feature that reflects off of the facets. However, a birefringence is seen only from certain angles, and the staircase replicates when moved! You can see the classic birefringence (facet doubling) that Zircon displays in the photos. The style of the work is very reminiscent of an Escher drawing!

Zircon has a bad rap because many often confuse it as cubic zirconia. However, Zircon is a natural mineral and chemically is zirconium orthosilicate.
