Rhyolite is a type of igneous rock that has a high silica content. This makes it durable and great for cabbing. There are many formations of Rhyolite, but this banded material from New Mexico is beautiful to work with. It is a micro grain formation with colorful banding that is also referred to as Wonder Stone. This piece is a freeform cabochon that frames the picturesque banding nicely. It is nearly 50 carats and will make a large unique pendant! This stone was cabbed by Brett Kosnar of Kosnar Gem Co. Enjoy!
