Here is a great rarity for US gems. This is a Smithsonite from the Kelly Mine in New Mexico. The Kelly Mine was a great producer of Zinc in the early 20th century, but the mine closed operations in 1957. There is no more of this fantastic material on the market, and old specimens are becoming increasingly expensive. This stone was cut from a broken piece that we were lucky enough to be offered from an old collection. This stone has a faint blue color that is nearly colorless. It is approaching 3 carats in weight which is a nice size. This material is a great US treasure and undoubtedly limited. This stone was cut by Robert Heath. Enjoy!
